Books and Other Information Sources
Members can borrow, renew or reserve books, journals and audio visual materials for free however, maps, thesis and newspapers are not for home use.
How to Borrow Books
- You can check the Library OPAC for available resources.
- Check on the call number of the book for the location and proceed to the shelve.
- Present your GUtech ID in the circulation for processing or use the self-check machine. Library receipts are issued for borrowing periods and expiration
How to Reserve Item
- Log in to your Library Account to reserve items and to view your borrowed, overdue items and fines and to change your password.
- Search for the title of your choice in the OPAC .
- Proceed to the circulation to reserve the item. OR
- You can also reserve and renew for items via Whatsapp service

“What will I do if I lost a book that I borrowed?”
First, you have to inform the library staff. This is to ensure that overdue fines and notifications shall stop after claiming it lost in the system. Doing so may save you from fines accumulation and block on borrowing after five consecutive emails.
“I accidentally spilled a coffee in my book and it causes damage. Shall I pay for the book?”
Any damaged book is accounted to the last borrower. Members are therefore advised to inspect items they borrow before leaving the circulation counter. Damage cost is assessed based on the table below:

Electronic resources
The library provides access to electronic resources that further support study and research. Electronic resources are accessible in the library website.
Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC)
OPAC facilitates item search. It helps users to locate a book and other material available in the library. It is available in the library website.
User Trainings
The Library helps members to develop their ability to search, select and retrieve information in the traditional and electronic library environment. User trainings are given throughout the year by group or individual. For booking email lis@gutech.edu.om
Workstations
Workstations are provided in all sections of the library. They are networked to all student printers in the university.
Photocopier/Printer/Scanner
Black & white and colour printer are available in the library. Members must use their own GUtech ID card or username & password to access the printers.
Self-check Machine
Members can borrow, return and renew book using the self-check machine provided that they do not have an overdue item.
Purchase Suggestion
Students and staff are encouraged to recommend new titles to be added in the collection. Purchase suggestions are submitted through suggest a purchase page in the library website.
Interlibrary Loan
The library helps users to obtain materials available from other libraries. Email request at lis@gutech.edu.om.
Reading Areas
The library provides various reading areas to suit readers’ study style preference.
